The Slieve Russell Hotel is one of the finest hotels in Ireland offering 4 star accommodation across a 222 Bedroom Hotel with extensive conference, banqueting and leisure facilities. The Hotel was built back in 1990 and since then it has gone through numerous refurbishments. Tony Walker has been the General Manager of this hotel for nearly 20 years and in that time, he has overseen the design, implementation and results of improvements made to the Hotel and greater Resort.
Mr Walker first encountered MFM Joinery through a main contractor. The initial Job that was contracted for was the refurbishment of the Woodford & Erne Suites including the hotel shop and adjacent lobby.
From this initial first contract, a great working relationship between The Slieve Russell Hotel and MFM Joinery began. Over the past number of years, MFM Joinery have supplied and fitted internal doors, wall panels and bespoke joinery for the Cranaghan Suite, the Country Club reception, and the male and female toilets in the main hotel foyer.
A lot of MFM’s work can be seen on this promotional video.
Refurbishment of the Woodford & Erne Suites including the hotel shop and adjacent lobby
Under the management of S & A Construction, and in line with the design provided by Clarke & Whiteman Architects, MFM Joinery were delighted to be awarded the contract to supply numerous items of joinery as required for the refurbishment. This also included an upgrade of the original function suites of this prestigious hotel.
Works included new glazed fire screens and door sets (both non fire and fire rated), radiator panels, toilet cubicles and vanity units. The joinery package also involved the re-production of numerous sections of wall panelling, skirting and moulding, all of which had to match the profile of the original panelling that was fitted in the earlier 1990’s.
Finally, a number of alterations were also required to the existing bars including new feature mirrors to the bar back and moulding.
Country Club Reception
Again, under the management of local contractor S & A Construction, and as part of the overall re-design of the Country club reception, MFM Joinery was awarded the contract to supply and fit the new feature reception desk.
Following the detail design provided by Clarke & Whiteman Architects, MFM Joinery proceeded to manufacture the beautiful new reception with its unique shapes and turns and eye catching shadow gaps of numerous shades of green. MFM Joinery worked closely with the staff of the country club to ensure the design would work with their requirements. This included provision for a coffee machine, ice cream fridge and various other items required in assisting the team in their daily running of the country club.
Male and Female Toilets to the Main Hotel Foyer
In accordance with the design provided by Carol Browne and under the management of S & A Construction, MFM Joinery provided all the new joinery components to the four toilets (2 Male & 2 Female) located just of the main hotel foyer. Joinery components provided included several areas of wall panelling, cubicle door sets, vanity units and mirrors. All received a stain and lacquer finish prior to delivery to site.

Under the direct employment of the Hotel management, and working alongside contractor S & A Construction and designers Clarke & Whiteman Architects, MFM Joinery was awarded the contract to supply and fit several joinery items as part of the overall refurbishment and upgrade of the Crannaghan Suite.
All doorsets were replaced with new fire rated doorsets of various finishes including paint grade and oak veneered. Feature mirrors and wall panelling were added to the main suite area while the two bars to the pre-function area were all reconfigured to include mirror panels to the bar front and bar back. New under counter storage units were also added.
A selection of existing doors were also refurbished to improve the functionality of same, therefore eliminating the need to replace same with the added benefit of a cost saving to the client.
Tony Walker is happy to recommend the team at MFM Joinery “They offer a very professional approach, excellent craftsmanship, and superior knowledge when it came to any of the projects that we engaged their services for.”
On some of the projects completed in the Slieve Russell Hotel, design advice was needed. Mark Smith and his team were happy to help with detailed design and give excellent attention to all elements of the work involved.
When asked on their reasoning for choosing MFM Joinery for projects, Mr. Walker stated the benefit of hiring local contractors, his satisfaction with previous work, MFM Joinery’s projected turnaround time from awarding of project to delivery to site and the overall attitude of the MFM Joinery team.
The Slieve Russell is one of many hotels that MFM Joinery work with but to showcase their excellent work in their home county is a great sense of pride for the team. The next time you visit the hotel, take a closer look at the attention to detail in the door frames, the excellent craftmanship in the Cranaghan Suite and the polished finish of the Country Club reception.
